Riverside Park - Improvement Grant

RIVERSIDE PARK is recognised as Middlesbrough’s prime industrial estate with a broad mix of office, warehouse and industrial space. Many improvements have been made to the site and even more are on the way!

Over the past six years the area has seen more than £2m of investment - thanks to funding from the Tees Valley Partnership Single Programme, European Regional Development Fund and contributions from Middlesbrough Council and Groundwork South Tees.

Improvements have been made to lighting, signage, landscaping and cycle routes - and there’s been a significant amount of private sector investment across the estate.

Businesses such as Intelect UK Ltd and the Gazette Media Company are just two of the developments in recent years that are regenerating key brownfield sites.

John Thompson for Intelect UK Ltd said: “Over the past few years Middlesbrough Council’s commitment and investment to Riverside Park has enabled the park to thrive.
“With the construction of the new access road from Newport Roundabout this has influenced
Intelect’s decision to commit to a £2.5m development for our office and workshop relocation.”
Other new developments include MF Sealings and Easter Park, which itself is providing new high-quality workspace.

Middlesbrough Council is actively promoting the image of Riverside Park and the environment it offers for local businesses. A Quality Agenda and Design Guide advise companies on getting the best from their building designs and materials.

Work is progressing well on the North Middlesbrough Accessibility Scheme which is putting a new access road into Riverside Park.

The rail bridge beams have been successfully lifted into position during a night time blockade on the rail track. The new roundabout on Riverside Park Road and the widening of the A66 and
Newport Roundabout are almost complete. Work continues on renewing the central reservation safety barriers. The scheme is on course for completion early in 2010. Further information on progress is available on the project website http://www.northmiddlesbroughaccessibility.com/

In a recent development, an extra £500,000 is to be ploughed into making Riverside Park more attractive. The money follows a successful bid to the Working Neighbourhoods Fund, with some of the cash earmarked for the East Middlesbrough Industrial Estate. Groundwork South Tees will be managing the two-year improvement scheme.

Middlesbrough Council has also secured £240,000 cash from the Working Neighbourhood Fund to help businesses on Riverside Park improve the look and security of their premises through Employment Site Improvement Grants.
